Monika Wiley, Ed.D., received her Bachelor’s of Science from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) and has over 25 years in public education. She began her career as a mathematics teacher at Bak Middle School of the Arts in West Palm Beach, Florida. After teaching mathematics, Dr. Wiley began her administrative career as an assistant principal at Jeaga Middle School in West Palm Beach. During her time in Palm Beach County, Dr. Wiley earned a Master’s in Mathematics Education from Nova Southeastern University and her certification in Educational Leadership from Florida Atlantic University.
Upon moving to Clayton County, Georgia, Dr. Wiley was named an assistant principal at Jonesboro High School. Two years later, she was named the principal of North Clayton Middle School. Dr. Wiley earned her Specialist in Educational Leadership from University of West Georgia while continuing to serve the North Clayton Middle School community.
After her tenure at North Clayton Middle School, Dr. Wiley was named the Director of Fine Arts/School Choice. Dr. Wiley earned her Doctorate in School Improvement with a concentration in Educational Leadership. Since creating the new School Choice/Magnet Programs Department, Dr. Wiley opened seven new magnet programs. Under Dr. Wiley’s leadership, Clayton County Public Schools received two Best Communities for Music Education awards. Dr. Wiley developed many relationships within the greater Atlanta area. She has served as a member of the following education advisory committees: The High Museum, Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center, and ArtsNow Teaching and Learning Across the Curriculum. She has also developed partnerships with the Alliance Theatre, Clayton State University, and Georgia Institute of Technology (CESIMS). Through the partnerships with the organizations above, Clayton County Public Schools received the following grants: Central Georgia EMC ($9,000), U.S. Department of Education ($1.9 Million), and Georgia Office of Student Achievement ($150,000), USDOE for $1.3 million and most recently (2022) $14.5 million.
A few of her publications are Arts-Integration for Future of STEAM Learning, A Case for Focusing on the “A” in STEAM Year-Round, Integrating Across Subjects, 9 Reasons to Integrate the Arts School-wide, and A Leadership-Oriented Solution for Arts Integration. Dr. Wiley was named the2019 Dr. Denise Davis-Cotton Emerging Leader from Arts Schools Network.
Prior to being named the Assistant Superintendent of Strategic Improvement in 2023, Dr. Wiley completed the AASA Aspiring Superintendents Academy. Dr. Wiley is committed to reforming public education and has a particular interest in improving schools by implementing research-based school improvement processes. Continuous improvement of public schools is essential to providing increased student performance and quality results. Through her current role, Dr. Wiley will “Build a Better Tomorrow, Today.”
